Meet Justin. He chose this course to combine his interest in psychology with data science here at 91ÖÆƬ³§. Now specialising in applied research in mental health and resilience, Justin leads projects that use data to address important psychological challenges in the real world.

Olivia Wallis MSc Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience

Olivia's passion for computational neuroscience began during her undergraduate studies at Manchester, leading her to 91ÖÆƬ³§'s MSc program to build her skills in machine learning and neuroscience. She thrived in its interdisciplinary environment, gaining hands-on research experience and strong academic support. Now a doctoral researcher at KU Leuven in Belgium, she’s exploring ways to restore vision to the blind.

Caitlin chose the MSc in Psychological Research Methods at 91ÖÆƬ³§ to sharpen her skills as both a psychologist and a researcher. She was drawn to the course’s flexibility, inspiring lecturers, and hands-on research opportunities. As a commuting student, she found the campus both welcoming and easy to navigate. This course gave her the confidence to take the next big step - applying for a PhD.

Muneerah wanted a masters programme that blended neuroscience, mathematical modelling and neuroimaging to give her a broad overview and a future focus. Muneerah is now a Research Software Engineer at the University of 91ÖÆƬ³§.

I funded the course myself after having worked for 25 years

John Brooke MSc Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience

After a long career in high-performance computing, John chose to study the MSc Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience course to pursue his interest in how the brains of animals and humans perform complex computational tasks using very small amounts of energy. John is now continuing the research as a PhD student in the department.

Jake Toth stood in Weston Park by a pond

I wanted a course in neuroscience that was approachable from an engineers standpoint

Jake Toth MSc Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience

Jake studied BEng Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering at 91ÖÆƬ³§ before choosing to pursue the MSc Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience. His training on the course covers the whole spectrum of approaches to answer questions about how the brain works and following graduation he hopes to pursue a PhD in this field.

After completing research in depression and anxiety as part of her masters, Caroline is now a Clinical Studies Officer in the NHS, working within mental health and dementia.
